Wake Up Call 2/12/13

Melissa

My cell phone rang a little after 7 a.m. this morning and I recognized the number as the hospital. Of course we freaked out when we saw the NICU was calling and my heart sunk even more when I heard Dr. Alexander's voice on the other end of the phone. Dr. A quickly assured me everything was fine. After my heart stopped racing and I caught my breath I was able to listen to what he had to say. What a way to wake up! Dr. A will be going on vacation for a week and wanted to check in with us and answer any questions we had before he left. He said Hattie's eye exam went well and echoed what the eye doctor said with there is some obvious immaturity in Hattie's eyes and she's exactly where she should be. Dr. A said he will call and check on his babies often so they don't feel like he's abandoning them. This is just another reason we are so thankful Dr. A is Hattie's doctor. Hattie's feeds have increased to 28 cc. She now weighs 1,521 grams, or 3 pounds, 5.5 ounces. Hattie has passed the 1,500 gram milestone and is getting closer and closer to moving to a bassinet!

I nuzzled and kangarooed during the day; I don't think I'll ever get tired of holding my baby girl! Tonight, Chris stayed late at the hospital kangarooing with Hattie and I left a little early to go to Publix. It's hard to believe this is only the second time I've been to the grocery store since Hattie was born.

Any time I'm away from Hattie I miss her. Every time I close my eyes I see her sweet face and she's the first thing I think about when I wake up. Each night before we go to bed Chris tells me he loves me, I tell him I love him and we both say out loud we love Hattie. We are so proud of our little warrior.
